How I almost ruined stir fry : 0

Don’t worry, it’s almost. I don’t think one can ruin stir fry.

Stir fry and rice go together like waffles and syrup, or bagels and cream cheese. It’s not technically essential, but without rice (or syrup or cream cheese), the meal feels incomplete in an empty, hollow, terrible way. Unfortunately, the first batch of rice we made was inedibly mushy. Not like sticky rice mushy. More like polenta mushy.

We made more rice, but we had to do the first half of the bird list before it was ready so that everyone wasn’t just sitting there eating some naked vegetables. It was awful. On the other hand, I would have just eaten the veggies and tofu — in fact, I did, as a silent protest at the difficulty of rice.

I also made scallion pancakes. Except there were no scallions, and I baked them instead of frying them. So they were basically thick sesame seed cracker situations, which actually went over pretty well. Campers in this age group love bread products. More carbs, please.

As for the mushy rice, I made rice pudding in a kind of “make lemonade” situation. Stir fry: not ruined.
